Meet Bongo “Groot”

Meet Groot! The Louisville Zoo’s newest addition —  a male bongo calf — will now officially be called Groot following the conclusion of a public naming contest. Thanks to our many guests who participated. Nearly 2,000 names were submitted. Groot’s keeper staff narrowed those names down to three: Groot, Drax and Rocket, from the “Guardians of the Galaxy” movies. Find Out More

Zoo Opens Butterflies n’ Blooms

Back by popular demand, the butterflies have made their return to the Louisville Zoo — the Butterflies n’ Blooms exhibit has opened and runs through Sept. 22. This temporary exhibit is free with Zoo admission or membership. Find Out More

Zoo Celebrates 50th Anniversary with 50Fest Party

To celebrate turning 50 this year the Zoo is throwing a party! 50Fest is May 18-19 at the Zoo.The Zoo’s two newest mascots — Leroy the rhino, in honor of one of the Zoo’s first rhinos named Leroy, and Miles the giraffe — will be on hand along with other animal mascots. Find Out More
