Taking conservation to the highest level – the roof!

When you want to conserve energy and especially keep a chilly interior cold, what goes on top of the structure can make a huge difference. With a focus on conserving resources, the Zoo selected a specialized Shasta White Owens Corning™ Oakridge® Roofing Shingle for the snowy owl exhibit that has earned an Energy Star rating.

The shingles reflect solar energy which decreases the amount of heat transferred to the interior therefore reducing the amount of air conditioning required to maintain the target 55 degree temperature. This effort also reduces the energy bill for the exhibit by 30 percent.
