School at the Zoo: Maupin Day Five

Today the MetaZoo education department wrapped up a week of learning with Maupin Elementary School today with a day full of fun. Both student groups visited our Gorilla Forest exhibit today. They spent a great deal of time visiting with our gorilla group and observing their behavior. We also stopped by meerkats and naked mole rats too. We timed our morning walk perfectly and made it to the a.m. elephant demonstration with Mikki and Punch. It is always so much fun to get to see such massive animals up close. Both groups discussed ways that they can be better ambassadors for our planet. They came up with ideas like being kind to animals and plants!

We wrapped up our day with an orangutan keeper talk.  Each student received a certificate stating that they have finished the School at the Zoo program at the Louisville Zoo.

We look forward to seeing the students again in January for Maupin’s Zoo Night!
