The Louisville Zoo is celebrating local moms who purchase tickets to visit the Zoo on Mother’s Day – handing out free standard admission tickets that can be used on a later date of their choosing in 2021, courtesy of Ford Motor Company.

While in past years, moms received free entry to the Zoo on the holiday, due to COVID-19 restrictions and the Zoo operating at a reduced capacity to keep members and employees safe, the Zoo is finding another way to keep the long-standing tradition going for local moms. Moms visiting the Zoo on Mother’s Day can stop by the ticket window for a free standard admission pass, which can be used at a later date of their choosing. The ticket is good for general admission only and excludes special events like Boo at the Zoo and Wild Lights sponsored by T-Mobile.

Due to reduced capacity, advance online tickets are required to enter the Zoo. To learn more about the Zoo’s Mother’s Day event and purchase tickets, visit LouisvilleZoo.org/mom2021.

This Mother’s Day, the Zoo is also helping raise awareness of an effort from the national organization Orangutan Outreach, focused on helping orangutan mothers and their babies. The M.O.M. (Missing Orangutan Mothers) Campaign is paying tribute to orangutan mothers and also helping bring attention to the crisis red apes are facing globally, encouraging people to do their part to raise awareness and funds to protect them.

The campaign focuses on the growing demand for palm oil, resulting in the destruction of rainforest habitat and the loss of orangutan mothers, particularly on the islands of Borneo and Sumatra, often leaving behind baby orangutans to fend for themselves. Visit the Louisville Zoo Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/Louisvillezoo) on May 9, 2021 to learn more about the campaign and how you can help.
