Louisville Zoo visitors can enjoy brand new larger-than-life sculptures in Sean Kenney’s Nature Connects® exhibit made with LEGO bricks June 16 through September 17, 2023.

The exhibit includes 15 sculptures including an 83-inch-tall moth orchid, a 77-inch-tall goldfinch, a 60-inch-tall snail on a mushroom and a 76-inch-tall hummingbird. The art is made from over 203,000 LEGO bricks.

Produced by Imagine Exhibitions, Nature Connects depicts important topics that New York artist Sean Kenney holds dear, from protecting an animal’s habitat to planting a garden.

“All of the themes that Sean focuses on are intrinsic components of the Louisville Zoo’s mission ‘To Better the Bond Between People and Our Planet,’ said Louisville Zoo Director Dan Maloney. “We are excited to welcome this impressive exhibit back to the Zoo with new sculptures made from one of the world’s most popular toys, and allow our community and guests see nature from a new, unique perspective.”

Tom Zaller, CEO of Imagine Exhibitions, shared that the company “is proud to partner with Sean Kenney to bring the creative vision of Nature Connects to the Louisville Zoo. The messages in the exhibition about our connection to nature are beautifully presented and effectively weaved into the story in the hopes of inspiring visitors to think more about mankind’s impact on the greater world around us.”

Nature Connects® is free with Louisville Zoo admission or membership.

The Zoo is open daily year-round. Spring / summer hours are 10 a.m. ─ 5 p.m. (enjoy until 6 p.m.). The Zoo is closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day. Visit louisvillezoo.org.
