GENERAL MEMBERSHIP QUESTIONS


This depends on how many people you plan to bring with you to the Zoo. We have several different levels to accommodate you, your family and your guests. Please contact the membership department at (502) 459-2287 to speak with a membership specialist about all your options.


This is another name for your Louisville Zoo membership.


Yes, you can deduct a portion of your admission (not including parking or rides packages) from the cost of a membership within 48 hours of the initial purchase.  We accept original receipts purchased at the admissions windows or online tickets but do not accept discounted or group tickets.


On any visit to the Zoo, you can pick up and use either your permanent membership card, virtual card app or temporary membership card (sent by email if purchased online) at the main gate. We ask that members ALWAYS bring a photo ID for any adult members named on their card that are attending the Zoo.  If we have your photo on file, we should not need it at the gate, but it is always a good idea to have a photo ID with you for credit card purchases within the park.


Yes, Express Service line is available for current members for simple service items on very busy days. Services offered include card replacement, validation of Virtual Membership Card Apps and membership card pickups. To facilitate this express option, look for signs to direct you. We ask that you not use these lines to renew or purchase new memberships.


Yes! Bring the email on your smart phone or a printed copy to membership windows #7, 8 or 9 to get your permanent card.  If you did not receive an email, please have a valid photo ID so we can look up your membership.


Yes. Your membership is in effect immediately upon purchase. Just stop by the Membership Gazebo or membership windows #7, 8 or 9 on your way in. The process should only take a few minutes to complete.


No, parking during regular Zoo hours is included with your Louisville Zoo membership.  If you are planning to purchase a ticket or bring someone else who is NOT covered on your membership card, you may want to ride together so your guest can take advantage of your parking benefit. If your guest rides in a separate vehicle they will be charged for parking.  Parking for after-hours events including our fundraiser “The World’s Largest Halloween Party!” presented by Meijer is not covered by your membership and must be paid the night of the event.

You may use your membership every day during regular Zoo hours. The Louisville Zoo closes early on some days for special or private events; be sure to check LouisvilleZoo.org/today for any early closures. After hours events such as “The World’s Largest Halloween Party” presented by Meijer, Brew at the Zoo and Wine Too, Zoofari and Santa’s Safari, are not covered by any membership level, but you may receive a discount on select events.


All levels of membership include early entry into the Zoo daily June & July at 9:30 a.m.

  • Please be aware that some Zoo exhibits, concessions and rentals are not available during Members-only mornings from 9:30 – 10 a.m. While you may catch a glimpse of a few animals, many of our animal residents may still be moving through their regular morning routine along with their keepers. Priority is given to the safety and well-being of the animals at all times. Thank you for helping us be expert caretakers.


Yes, all Louisville Zoo members receive free or discounted admission to other participating AZA reciprocal zoos and aquariums.  Be sure to check the list of participating zoos and be sure to call ahead to verify their individual requirements. If you have issues, please have the Zoo you are visiting call us at (502) 459-2287. We will work to help provide them with any information they may require.


Your membership is valid for 12 months and will expire one year from the date of purchase.

Note: during special promotions, we may offer additional months free; these additional months are added and reflected digitally on your membership card and app. 


Yes.  At any point during your active membership you can upgrade your membership for the difference in cost between the current membership and upgraded level.  Please note the memberships’ expiration date will stay the same regardless of when you upgrade and we do not prorate the fees for the change. 


Memberships are only issued to adults (age 18+) or caregivers added to an account. 

Memberships are tax deductible to the extent provided by law. Please consult your tax adviser for details. Your membership and all your purchases at the Zoo support the Zoo’s mission to provide excellent care for our animals, top-notch family entertainment plus critical conservation education and scientific research.



Memberships and donations can be matched by your employer to the extent provided by law. Please consult your tax advisor for details. Matching gifts will in no way affect your membership or donation, but the additional gift is a huge help to the Zoo.

Contact your Human Resources Department to find out if your employer has a matching gifts program. Employers typically have webpages where you can enter your donation or the donation portion of your membership.

PURCHASING A MEMBERSHIP — NEW, RENEW AND GIFT


Online: please create a new profile or login using your existing member number to make purchases in our online webstore.

  • By Phone: please call our Membership Services line at (502) 459-2287 during regular Zoo hours.
  • In Person: please visit our Membership Gazebo or Membership Services windows #7, 8 or 9 during regular Zoo hours. We will process your membership, issue your permanent cards and / or verify your Virtual Membership Card App.
  • By Mail:  Download, print and complete the membership application and mail it to the address on the form.

QUESTIONS ABOUT WHO IS LISTED ON YOUR MEMBERSHIP


“A” type memberships are designed to allow 2 adults to be named cardholders with the ability to bring and use all features of your membership.  “B” type memberships are designed to allow only 1 adult to be named as a cardholder with the ability to bring and use all features of the membership.  If you have an “A” type membership the second named adult can NOT be substituted for an unnamed guest. 


Yes.  We will be happy to change your account type one time within the life-cycle of your membership. Please bring your current membership card(s) to be surrendered and a photo ID. 


“Named” Members jointly own the membership and will receive their own cards. They may come to the Zoo on their own, and may bring any children or guests included on the Membership. An “Unnamed Guest” must be accompanied by a Named Member on the membership (not by a child). Unnamed Guests can be different on each visit, and can be adults or children. 


No. Zoo memberships are non-transferable. If a Named Adult is not visiting, a guest cannot come in their place. If you need to change the designations on your card, staff in the membership areas can assist you. 


We will gladly add any children to your membership — however memberships are non-transferable and the primary member can NOT be changed. 

A caregiver may be added to any level of membership for $28 ($56 for Dual levels for Zoo plus Kentucky Science Center). Up to two (2) caregivers may be added to an account. A caregiver, who must be named on the card, may only escort the children covered on the card. Caregivers are able to utilize ride passes on behalf of the named member. Caregivers are not able to utilize the free guest option available at some membership levels. 


Yes.  Up to two (2) caregivers may be added to an account at any time for the additional fee associated.  Please note the membership’s expiration date will stay the same regardless of when you upgrade and we do not prorate the fees for the change. 


No, our current memberships are sold by household. Only the adults and children that live in your household can be included on your membership card. Grandparents are not expected to include children in their own personal households, simply the grandchildren within their own family. 


Not for free as part of your membership. Your membership card and associated privileges are not transferable to or for any other individuals. Discounted tickets are available at the ticketing windows for purchase on any visit.


Dependent children or grandchildren living in the same household ages 3–18 years old must be named on your membership. Children 2 and under must still be named on your membership but do not count toward the number of children included in your membership. Children do not receive membership cards and must be accompanied by a named adult on the membership. Children outside your household are not considered a part of your membership and require additional tickets be purchased or guest/buddy passes be used for their admission. If you have a unique circumstance or would like to discuss the children on your account, please call the membership office at (502) 459-2287. 


Children who are 2 years old and under are admitted to the Zoo free of charge and do not count toward the number of children covered by a membership, however we do still require they be listed so we can accurately account for them in our daily attendance. When your child turns 3 years old, they will count toward the number of children on your membership and will require a level to include them. Please include children age 2 and older if you purchase a Dual or Family Plus Dual membership, since the Kentucky Science Center charges for them. 

QUESTIONS ABOUT MEMBERSHIP CARDS

REMINDER: We do not mail membership cards.

If you purchase your membership…

  • At the Zoo — You will receive your cards immediately upon purchase.
  • Online/phone orders — Please stop by our Membership Services windows #7, 8 or 9 on your next visit to have your picture taken for named adults and to have your cards printed. Plan to avoid peak times to speed up your visit. 


Each named adult will receive a unique card that is scanned at the gate on each visit and matched to your photo on file or picture ID for verification. All passes and tickets are 1-time-use during regular Zoo hours and are digitally linked to your membership. 


By requiring a photo ID, we are better able to protect the integrity of your membership and offer more benefits to our participating members. 

If your membership card is lost or stolen, stop by Membership Services windows #7, 8 or 9 with your photo ID. Additional reprints are $5 per card. Note: we do not charge to reprint cards for legal name changes. 

Just come to our Membership Services windows #7, 8 or 9 with your photo ID and we will print you a temporary card for the day at no additional charge. 

We no longer mail membership cards, so just come to our Membership Gazebo (in season) or Membership Services windows #7, 8 or 9 during regular Zoo hours (daily) with your photo ID to receive your cards and have your photo taken. 


No, your membership and any/all associated privileges are non-transferable and are for the sole use of the named members. 


Children under the age of 12 must be supervised by a person age 16 or older with a valid driver’s license. Children may bring their younger siblings provided they have their parent’s membership card, are named children on the account, and the supervising child is age 16 or older with a valid driver’s license.


Yes. We now offer a Virtual Membership Card App for your smartphone (Android or iPhone). The Virtual Membership Card App stores your membership details including level, members and access barcode. Once you have an active membership visit the iTunes or Play Store and download the free Louisville Zoo membership app.  After inputting your information, the Home Screen will show “unverified”.  Please call or stop by the Membership Services windows #7, 8 or 9 on your next visit and we will give you a verification code to enter.  The app can be downloaded on multiple devices, one for each of the named adults on your account.  Each user must use the email address of the primary member.  The app will conveniently let you know when it’s time to renew, too! ADDITIONAL MEMBERSHIP PASSES AND TICKETS


Buddy Passes are one-time-use during regular Zoo hours (not valid for special events such as “the World’s Largest Halloween Party!” presented by Meijer), digitally linked to your membership, valid for children (ages 3-18) and must be used by a named adult on the account.  To redeem your Buddy Passes please let one of the Louisville Zoo gate attendants know as you are entering the Zoo and they will deduct them from your account. 


Guest Passes are one-time-use during regular Zoo hours (not valid for special events such as “the World’s Largest Halloween Party!” presented by Meijer), digitally linked to your membership, valid for any age and must be used by a named adult on the account.  To redeem your Guest Passes please let one of the Louisville Zoo gate attendants know as you are entering the Zoo and they will deduct them from your account. 


Carousel Passes are one-time-use during regular Zoo hours (not valid for special events such as “the World’s Largest Halloween Party” presented by Meijer), digitally linked to your membership, valid for any age and must be used by a named adult on the account. To redeem your Carousel Passes please let the Conservation Carousel cashier know before getting in line to ride and they will deduct them from your account and give you tickets to ride. 


Train Tickets are one-time-use during regular Zoo hours (not valid for special events such as “the World’s Largest Halloween Party!” presented by Meijer), digitally linked to your membership, valid for any age and must be used by a named adult on the account. To redeem your Train Tickets please let the Train Station cashier know before getting in line to ride and they will deduct them from your account and give you tickets to ride. 


Lorikeet Feedings are one-time-use during regular Zoo hours (not valid for special events such as “the World’s Largest Halloween Party!” presented by Meijer), digitally linked to your membership, valid for any age and must be used by a named adult on the account. Each feeding is 1 cup of nectar and may be passed around or held by multiple people as you experience free flying, brilliantly colored Lorikeets.  To redeem your Lorikeet Feedings please let the Lorikeet Landing cashier know before getting in line to enter the aviary and they will deduct them from your account and give you tickets to enter. 


Giraffe Feedings are one-time-use during regular Zoo hours (not valid for special events such as “the World’s Largest Halloween Party!” presented by Meijer), digitally linked to your membership, valid for any age and must be used by a named adult on the account. Each feeding is 1 cup/piece (food may vary) and may be passed around or held by multiple people.  To redeem your Giraffe Feedings please let the Giraffe Feed/Camel Rides cashier know before getting in line to feed a giraffe and they will deduct them from your account and give you tickets to enter. 

QUESTIONS ABOUT UNLIMITED RIDES AND ATTRACTIONS (TRAIN, TRAM & CAROUSEL)

All activities are seasonal and subject to the cooperation of weather, animals and maintenance. Safety for staff, guests and our animals is our #1 priority.  You can check LouisvilleZoo.org/today for daily updates on construction projects (inside and outside the Zoo), ride and attraction schedules and exhibit updates that might help you plan your visit.


With our high standards for safety on the train resulting in downtime due to maintenance, weather conditions and more, we were not able to meet the expectations of many members. We also have seen strong interest in more animal experiences. As we move in this new direction, we have decided to retire the Safari Gold membership for all new and renewing sales.  We encourage all families to consider new Zoo adventures with the Family Plus Experience membership level. 


Yes, included in our new Family Plus Experience, Curator, Nature’s Guardian and Wildlife Champion levels you will receive free unlimited rides on the Conservation Carousel for all those covered by your membership.  Unlimited Carousel rides are only valid during regular Zoo hours (not valid for special events such as “the World’s Largest Halloween Party!” presented by Meijer), digitally linked to your membership, valid for any age and must be used by a named adult on the account. To redeem your Unlimited Carousel rides please let the Conservation Carousel cashier know before getting in line to ride and they will verify your account and give each of you a wristband to ride unlimited. 


We are not charging for the use of the Zoo tram shuttle but do encourage donations to help support the Louisville Zoo Fund — accepted on the tram shuttle via donation box.  We run two new Zoo Tram Shuttles, one of which is wheel-chair accessible. The Zoo Tram Shuttle operates seasonally and is subject to the cooperation of weather, crowds and maintenance. 

SPECIAL EVENTS

The “World’s Largest Halloween Party!” presented by Meijer is held throughout the month of October. Members receive special pricing on admission tickets (must pay for parking for this fundraising event). More Halloween details and FAQs will be available on our website prior to the event. 

There are a number of events that are free with admission or membership including movie nights, special character appearances, etc. Some events like holiday events will have member discounts. You will find details on the Zoo’s event pages or online store along with instructions. 

These exclusive events require an active membership in our Family Plus Experience, Curator, Nature’s Guardian or Wildlife Champion levels. Those included on your membership must RSVP as a group to ensure we maintain capacity and exclusivity. Please RSVP here. 

QUESTIONS ABOUT DUAL MEMBERSHIPS WITH THE KENTUCKY SCIENCE CENTER


The Kentucky Science Center does not have a comparable membership package to offer our guests, therefore we do not offer a dual membership with Experience Benefits Package perks.  Visit Kysciencecenter.org/membership for more details on the Kentucky Science Center membership benefits and programs. 


Yes, as of July, 2014, we require all members who have purchased a Dual membership at the Kentucky Science Center to use a unique Louisville Zoo membership card or Membership Card App to access the Zoo and take advantage of discounts. Stop by the Zoo’s Membership Services windows #7, 8 or 9 to take your photo and receive a unique Louisville Zoo membership card for each named adult on the membership. 


In order to properly track attendance, member discount use and to protect the integrity of your membership we now scan cards at the gate and throughout the park to verify your identity and membership status. We also store any guest or ride passes on the cards digitally for redemption. 


Unfortunately no; at this time the Louisville Zoo and Kentucky Science Center do not share the same software or database, this requires we manually send and enter each membership after they have been purchased. Please allow 1 to 2 weeks for your membership information to be transmitted to us. This does not mean you can not visit the Zoo; we will work with KSC to ensure you can enjoy your Zoo the same day. Typically, you will receive a temporary card from KSC. In the event you did not receive or lost your temporary card we will call KSC to verify your membership with us. 

QUESTIONS ABOUT CHANGING MEMBERSHIP ACCOUNT INFORMATION


You may update your contact information online through your membership login, over the phone (502) 459-2287, via email zoomembership@louisvilleky.gov or on your next visit to the Zoo at any of our Member Services areas. Some information must be updated by our friendly staff to ensure the integrity of your membership. 

  • Choose “Buy Online” at the top of this page.
  • Choose the membership option that best suits your needs (Join, Renew, Gift)
  • Choose “Login with Card Number” if you are a former or current member. This will prompt you to create a user name and password.
  • Fill in the appropriate information required 

  • Login to the account
  • Choose “Manage Profile”
  • Make your changes
  • If there are any changes you are unable to complete, please email zoomembership@louisvilleky.gov or call our Membership Office at (502) 459-2287. 

OTHER


Kentucky House Bill 487, effective July 1, 2018, required us to add a 6% sales tax to Zoo admission, special events, Zoo memberships and other select items.

Kentucky House Bill 354, effective March 27, 2019 rescinded this tax.

We are required to follow applicable laws and regulations as they relate to sales tax.  For taxable products, you will see the notation (plus tax). The Louisville Zoo is a non-profit organization.
