Animals Depend on People to Survive – ADOPTS
The Zoo’s animal adoption program, ADOPTS, is another gift that keeps on giving. From addax to zebra, every animal at the Louisville Zoo requires specialized care, enrichment and nutrition. The Louisville Zoo’s food budget is over half a million dollars each year. The animal care staff prepare the highest quality meat, produce, fish and seafood for all of the Zoo’s amazing animal ambassadors, as well as safe and engaging items for them to explore and interact with. Funds from the ADOPTS program go toward the care of over 1,000 animals at the Zoo. Two of the Zoo’s newest residents, sloths Sunni and Sebastian, are now available for adoption in a special holiday package. While supplies last, Mikki and Fitz (African elephants) can be adopted together as well. Gift givers can also choose from these standard levels: $25 (new digital package) includes downloadable adoption certificate, species fact sheet and recognition on the Zoo’s website; $50 includes benefits above, mailed to the address of your choosing, plus a Zoo magnet; $75 includes all of the above benefits plus a plush animal. All packages available at LouisvilleZoo.org/adopts. Packages of $50 or above will be mailed. Order by Dec. 14 for guaranteed USPS delivery by Dec. 25.
Family Project for the Animals
Guests looking for a unique family project can take part in the local chapter of the American Association of Zoo Keepers (AAZK) Enrichment Tree. It is just like the Angel Trees at the mall but helps the animals at the Zoo get new enrichment items! Visit LouisvilleZoo.org/tree to see the list of needed items and to learn more.
The Louisville Zoo gift shop can take guests on a wildlife adventure in one visit. Educational toys and books can help families discover the world of animals and creatures living on our planet. The Zoo’s Main Gift Shop is located at the entrance of the Zoo and offers a great selection of holiday ornaments, apparel, educational toys and books, musical instruments, jewelry and a large selection of assorted plush animals. Shoppers are not required to pay admission just to shop. Louisville Zoo members always enjoy 10% off regularly priced items. The gift shop hours are 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily including Dec. 24 for last minute shopping (closed Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day). Visit LouisvilleZoo.org/holiday for more gift ideas. Also, shop online at Shop.LouisvilleZoo.org.
Louisville Zoo’s First Children’s Book
“The Truth About Zoos: Annie’s Awesome Adventures” follows Annie, a sleuth for the truth, and her down-to-earth friend Marcus, as they investigate their Zoo and learn what the animals and caretakers do every day. The book is available at the Zoo’s Main Gift Shop and online at Shop.LouisvilleZoo.org.
The Zoo also offers personalized gift options:
- Honor a friend, family member, special customer or client by giving a brick in the Etscorn Garden or on a memorial bench on Zoo grounds.
- Treat someone to a behind-the-scenes experience starting at $250 per exhibit area for a group of five. Behind-the-scenes tours are suspended currently due to COVID-19 measures; tours will be honored when the Zoo resumes regular tour operations.
To learn more about these personalized options, contact the Development Office at (502) 238-5386 or visit LouisvilleZoo.org/support.
E-Gift recipients can also choose their own adventure with a Louisville Zoo gift card available online for any amount and valid for 12 months after activation. A great gift idea that can be used on admission, rides and attractions, gift shop purchases or even a Zoo membership. E-gift cards can be purchased online at LouisvilleZoo.org/giftcard.
The Louisville Zoo season is presented by Ford Motor Company and T-Mobile.
