How many Steller’s sea eagles are there?
There are currently three eagles.

What are their names?
Our 30-year-old male is named Piotr, and our 8-year-old female is named Anastasia. And baby makes 3!

Where do they live?
These birds breed in eastern Russia, around the Sea of Okhotsk and on the Kamchatka Peninsula. A small number of birds remain in Kamchatka over the winter but the majority fly south to the Japanese Islands of Kuril and Hokkaido. This species is occasionally seen in China and in North & South Korea.

What do these bids eat?
Wild: Feed predominantly on salmon, dead or alive. Will also prey on other fish and the carcasses of animals such as seals and sea lions.
Zoo: Herring, rats, mice, chicks and sometimes rabbits.

When do Steller’s sea eagles typically lay eggs?
They typically start to build large bulky nests in the trees in late winter. Hatchlings typically emerge in early spring. However, this varies by location and availability of resrouces.
