Conservation

Gray seals can be found in the remnant wild on both sides of the Atlantic ocean, where they face many threats to their survival. Commercial fisheries pose a threat to wild seal populations due to their pushes to legalize culling seal populations. These companies believe that by decreasing the seal population, fish will become more abundant and thereby they will be able to increase fishing levels.

Conservation efforts focus on raising awareness of the dangers that face wild seal populations and working to prevent the culling of wild seals. You can learn more about the conservation of seals and other pinnipeds at www.pinnipeds.org and World Wildlife Fund.
