*ECVs are rented to an individual for all-day (including evening event if applicable) use on a first-come, first-served basis after all reservations are accounted for.  A valid ID must be present and left with our cashier until the return of our ECV.  

**To guarantee an ECV is available for your visit reservations must be made online at least one day in advance. (24-hour cancellation notice required for full refund.)

Rental Policies and Guidelines

Below read about our policies and guidelines for stroller, wagon, wheelchair and electric wheelchair rental and use.

Maximum weight limit 60 lbs.
One child only, up to 8 years
5 lbs. limit in pouch or hung on back

  • Always use seat belt.
  • Never stand or tip the stroller.
  • Do not exceed maximum weight in stroller, pouch or back of stroller.
  • Do not place heavy objects or children on top canopy.
  • Always use wheel lock when stopped or loading and unloading child.
  • Do not use with children inside infant carriers, must be able to sit upright alone.

Two children max, up to 8 years

  • Never stand inside the wagon.
  • Do not exceed maximum weight in wagon.

Maximum weight limit 250 lbs.

One rider max

  • Always engage both wheel locks before being seated or standing.
  • Wheel locks are not brakes!
  • Do not attempt to stop the moving wheelchair unless the chair is locked in the open position.
  • Do not ride over curbs and other obstructions.
  • Do not lean or reach excessively as it may cause the chair to tilt or tip.
  • Always use extreme caution when operating unit indoors, in crowds, when turning and on inclines.
  • Do not stop on an incline.
  • Do not stand on the frame or seat of the wheelchair.
  • Do not use footplate as a platform when sitting or standing.
  • Always put the footplates in the upward position and stand firmly on the ground when sitting or standing.
  • Do not drive across an incline or allow the unit to be backed down an incline.

A limited number of attachable bags to hold oxygen tanks, crutches and canes are available for an additional $2.00 +tax.

Reservations must be made online, at least one day in advance HERE.

  • Do not operate the unit after or while consuming alcoholic beverages.
  • Do not carry passengers.
  • Do not get on or off until the unit is OFF, completely stopped and on a stable surface.
  • Always remain seated with seat locked and positioned forward.
  • Always remove the key when not seated on the unit.
  • Do not ride over curbs or other obstructions.
  • Always reduce speed and use extreme caution when operating unit indoors, in crowds, when turning and on inclines.
  • Do not stop on an incline. If you must do so, always lean forward when you begin moving. This will shift the center of gravity to prevent the unit from tipping over.
  • Do not drive across an incline or allow the unit to be backed down an incline.
  • Always drive straight up and down on inclines.
  • Do not turn the key switch OFF while the unit is moving. This will cause the brake to activate causing the unit to stop abruptly.
  • Do not attempt to get off the unit while it is moving.
  • Operator must present a valid ID and leave it with our cashier until the return of our ECV as well as sign an ECV rental agreement.

A limited number of attachable bags to hold oxygen tanks, crutches and canes are available for an additional $2.00 +tax.  Please note, the arm rests on the ECVs must be used to secure the bag which will make the arm rests incapable of lowering for regular use.

FREE Sensory Bag Rental

The Louisville Zoo is now KultureCity Sensory Inclusive™ Certified to promote an accommodating, positive experience for all guests with a sensory issue who visit the Zoo!

Sensory Bags are available for families to checkout free of charge the day of their visit. A guest can reserve a bag online or checkout a bag in person. To pick-up your sensory bag in person, please visit the wheelchair/stroller rental booth at the Zoo’s Main Plaza. To reserve a bag in advance, click the link below.

Additional information regarding our Sensory Bags:

  • Reserved bags will be held for the entire day for the person to pick up at their leisure
  • All unreserved bags are available on a first come, first served basis
  • A valid ID will be collected and secured in the rental area
  • Contact information will be completed on a brief form
  • The guests’ ID will be returned when our sensory bags and items are turned back in

A map will be made available for those who need it and will include areas marked for

  • Quiet Areas
  • Headphone Zones
  • A QR code to scan and access our website with information regarding the program

Upon return, all bags are checked for their contents and then thoroughly wiped down using alcohol wipes to clean and sanitize them.  They will be allowed to dry completely before being refilled and available for the next guest.
