It’s easier than ever to recycle at the Zoo thanks to our fantastic recycling program and partner WestRock Recycling.
What does this mean for you? The bins you see at the Zoo may look a bit different than you’re used to! Instead of having separate bins for bottles, cans or paper, you just have to separate dry waste from wet, compostable waste. What a quick and easy way to sort!
Help us spread the word when you visit the Zoo! Here’s what you need to know:
- DRY WASTE includes the majority of disposable materials: paper, plastic, metal and cardboard. These waste containers are located throughout the pathways.
- COMPOST includes all foods and liquids. These items should be placed in the specially marked bins located near our food areas: African Outpost, Lakeside Smokehouse and Wild Burger. This waste is taken for composting by Smith Creek, Inc.
- LANDFILL includes diapers and wipes. These are collected in bathrooms and the parking lot. Items disposed of there are unable to be recycled.
The dry waste is taken to the recycling plant, where the experts at WestRock Recycling sort it all out. This way, we’re helping to conserve natural resources, your time, and landfill space. Everybody wins — and so does our fantastic planet!
