The Docent Organization is a wonderful group of people that have been around for over 30 years and whose contributions have continuously helped enable the zoo to grow and flourish. Docents are dedicated to assisting the Education Department in programs, classes, events, and interpreting throughout the zoo.
The Louisville Zoo strives to become the leader for monarch butterfly conservation in the region by empowering citizens and organizations to support the development and protection of critical habitat for monarch butterflies and other native pollinators.
“Future Healers Got Zoo Buddies” is a program partnership with Christopher 2X’s Game Changers organization. “Future Healers Got Zoo Buddies” is an initiative created to explore the healing and therapeutic power of animals with young kids in our community who have experienced secondary trauma from violence.
Join the Zoo and Eco-Cell to recycle cell phones, help the environment and make money for conservation. Bring your old cell phones to the Zoo and put them in the special containers on the Front Plaza. Eco-Cell will donate up to $200 or more for a newer model cell phone. And because the Louisville Zoo is an Eco-Cell Silverback Partner, we receive money for EVERY phone that we recycle.
Organizations such as WaterStep help provide safe water to communities in developing countries. The Louisville Zoo has a collection box for very gently used shoes that we donate to WaterStep. Donate shoes to support clean water projects in communities around the world.
