Looking for an exciting way to spend fall break? Louisville Zoo’s MetaZoo Camps offer two-day adventures designed for students in grades 1 – 3. Campers will explore the Zoo through animal encounters, games, activities, and hands-on learning while discovering amazing wildlife and conservation topics.
Each camp has a unique theme and is led by Zoo educators who help campers connect with animals and the natural world in fun and engaging ways. Campers will have an indoor, climate-controlled classroom base but will spend most of their day exploring the Zoo, so be sure to dress for walking and the weather.

Camp Sessions
Grossology (2-Day Camp)
September 28 – 29, 2026
In this camp, we will discover all about things that make parents say “yuck!” From slimy slugs to stinky skunks, the animal kingdom is full of adaptations that may seem gross to us but help animals survive. Campers will investigate the weird, wild and wonderfully gross ways animals use these adaptations to thrive in their environments.
Scaredy Cats (2-Day Camp)

We’ve all heard about scaredy cats, but are cats really scared? The answer depends on whether you’re the predator or the prey! Campers will explore the felines of the Louisville Zoo and discover the traits and behaviors that make cats some of nature’s most fascinating animals.
Polar Opposites (2-Day Camp)
November 2 – 3, 2026
We spend a lot of time learning what animals have in common, but what about the things they don’t share? From slow-moving sloths to fast-running lions, nature is filled with opposites. Campers will explore the diversity of the animal kingdom and discover how different adaptations help animals survive in different environments.

Important Information
- Campers should come prepared for outdoor exploration and walking throughout the Zoo.
- Parents or guardians arriving after 9:15 a.m. or dropping off items for campers must check in at the Administration Building front desk between 11 and 11:15 a.m.
- Early pickup must be arranged with Education staff in advance. Campers may only be picked up from the Administration Building front desk between 11 and 11:15 a.m. or between 2 and 2:15 p.m.
