Kid’s Dentistree Wildlife Celebrations (2023)

Join us this summer for Wildlife Celebrations sponsored by Kid’s Dentistree! Guests can enjoy important wildlife conservation days and fun birthday activities for our animal ambassadors. See demonstrations, enrichment activities and learn fun facts about wildlife with help from the KDcrew at Kid’s Dentistree.

Thursday, June 15: King Louie Birthday 
We’re celebrating our rare white alligator King Louie! This popular animal ambassador came to the Louisville Zoo in 2005 and has been reigning over the HerpAquarium since!

Saturday, June 17: World Crocodile Day
Smile, it’s World Crocodile Day! On this special day, we bring awareness to these special reptiles and their struggles in the vanishing wild. The Zoo is home to one very special and very endangered crocodile species: the Cuban crocodile. Join us for a special keeper talk at 2:30 p.m. There will be FREE toothbrushes at the Cuban Crocodile exhibit in the Islands pavilion, courtesy of Kid’s Dentistree (while supplies last)!

Wednesday, June 21: World Giraffe Day
Started back in 2014 by the Giraffe Conservation Foundation (GCF), this day highlights the issues that these iconic animals face in their natural habitat. Say hello to our two Masai giraffes, Kianga and Baridi. Join us for a special keeper talk at 10:30 a.m. and take care of your own tusks, with FREE toothbrushes at the giraffe house, courtesy of Kid’s Dentistree (while supplies last).

Saturday, July 29:  International Tiger Day
My, what big teeth you have! Join us on this day to learn more about tigers including how we take care of those big, big teeth. Join us for a special keeper talk at 2 p.m. in the Islands and take care of your own tusks, with FREE toothbrushes, courtesy of Kid’s Dentistree (while supplies last).

Saturday, August 12: World Elephant Day
Find out about the Zoo’s elephants, Asian elephant Punch and African elephant Mikki. Join us for a special keeper talk at 3 p.m.

Saturday, August 19: International Orangutan Day
This day was created to spread awareness about orangutans and the threats of extinction they face. Come celebrate these fantastic apes and learn how we can all come together to protect them. Join us for a special keeper talk at 2 p.m. in the Banjar House in the Islands, with FREE toothbrushes, courtesy of Kid’s Dentistree (while supplies last)..

Monday, September 4: National Wildlife Day
Learn more about the animals that we share the planet with and hear a special keeper talk about one of our newest animals, the toco toucan, Lucy. Join us for a special keeper talk at 2 p.m. at the toucan/macaw exhibit in the Americas zone with FREE toothbrushes, courtesy of Kid’s Dentistree (while supplies last).

Saturday, September 16: International Red Panda Day
This day was created to spread awareness about red pandas and the threats of extinction they face. Come visit Sunny D, our new red panda, and learn how we can all come together to protect this species. Join us for a special keeper talk at 3 p.m. at the red panda habitat across from Wild Burger and pick up a free toothbrush, courtesy of Kid’s Dentistree (while suplies last).

Sunday, September 24: World Gorilla Day
Learn more about the gorillas that call the Louisville Zoo home like Kindi, Jelani and Casey. This day was designed to educate people about one of the world’s most endangered apes and ways to help save them.  Join us for a special keeper talk at 2:15 p.m. indoors at the Gorilla Forest sanctuary.
