Polar Bear Week (2019)

November 3, 2019 @ 11:00 am - 2:00 pm

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every day that begins at 11:00 am, repeating until November 9, 2019

It’s early November. It’s cold. And polar bears in the remnant wild are waiting for the sea ice to form.

Join the Louisville Zoo staff as we celebrate Polar Bear Week. This event, coinciding with the annual fall polar bear migration, serves to bring awareness to challenges polar bears face and the importance of protecting their sea ice habitat.

Adventure down to Glacier Run to meet Qannik the rescued polar bear. Learn about polar bears and the challenges they face during our daily keeper talks.

Help Spread Awareness

You can also help spread awareness about arctic sea ice by participating in our Flat Nanuk activity. Flat Nanuk is a polar bear who loves to travel and meet people. Download him here or pick up a coloring sheet from an education station in Glacier Run! Color him in, cut him out, and add a message to his sign like “Save polar bears!” or  whatever you decide. Then, take a photo of yourself with Flat Nanuk in a favorite place — like the Zoo!  Don’t forget to share your photo on social media and tag #louisvillezoo and #polarbearsinternational.
