Join us for a heartfelt celebration of our beloved elephants, Punch and Mikki, before their journey to the extensive habitat and expanded herd of The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee later this spring. This is your opportunity to honor their incredible legacy and wish our beloved duo well on their exciting new chapter. You will still be able to visit the elephants into late spring, but we suggest seeing them before mid-May.

Proceeds from the sale of items will support the care of Mikki and Punch as we prepare for their journey to The Elephant Sanctuary later this spring, as well as our elephant conservation partners (International Elephant Foundation and the Smithsonian Zoo) who are conducting critical research on illnesses impacting elephants.

ABOUT THE ELEPHANTS

Mikki

Born: 1985 (Estimated)
Louisville Zoo Arrival: July 28, 1987
Mikki is an African elephant that arrived at the Louisville Zoo when she was about 2 years old. She spends her time foraging in the exhibit and especially enjoys pulling the bark and leaves off of trees. Guests have even witnessed her bracing her front legs on top of Punch to grab the highest tree limbs! She also spends time digging in the clay pile in her habitat.

Punch

Born: 1970 (Estimated)
Louisville Zoo Arrival: 1973
Punch arrived at the Louisville Zoo when she was about 3 years old. Punch, though considered a geriatric elephant, is still very active and enjoys playing with her boomer ball. She will often choose to kick it with her back leg and will even chase it into the elephant pool during hot summer months.
