Arctic Sea Ice Awareness Days
July 15, 2019 @ 11:00 am - 3:00 pm
Join the Louisville Zoo staff as we celebrate Arctic Sea Ice Awareness Days. This event serves to bring awareness to challenges polar bears face and the importance of protecting their sea ice habitat.
July 12 – 15 : Education Stations
11 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Volunteer educators will be on grounds with coloring pages and animal biofacts, ready to answer your questions about polar bears and their vanishing habitats.
July 15 : Special Enrichment Activities
Visit Glacier Run and watch as the keepers provide special enrichment for Qannik the polar bear. There will be training demos at 11:15 a.m. and 2:45 p.m as well as our fish market demos at 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. to share more information about polar bears and their sea ice.
Help Spread Awareness
You can also help spread awareness about arctic sea ice by participating in our Flat Nanuk activity. Flat Nanuk is a polar bear who loves to travel and meet people. Download him here or pick up a coloring sheet from an education station in Glacier Run! Color him in, cut him out, and add a message to his sign like “Save polar bears!” or whatever you decide. Then, take a photo of yourself with Flat Nanuk in a favorite place — like the Zoo! Don’t forget to share your photo on social media and tag #louisvillezoo and #polarbearsinternational.
