African Penguin Awareness Day
October 14, 2023 @ 11:00 am - 1:00 pm

Waddle over to celebrate this very special day as we help raise awareness about African penguins and the issues they face in the vanishing wild. This species has had a staggering decline in population over the last 100 years due to overfishing, habitat degradation and oil spills. Between 2019 and 2021 in South Africa, the population of breeding birds declined by 23 percent.
From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., waddle to the Zoo and meet volunteer educators with biofacts to learn more about these amazing birds. Head over to the Islands for a special keeper talk at 11 a.m.!
Easy ways to help from home:
- Recycle, reuse and reduce plastics, aluminum and other materials in your daily activities.
- When ordering or buying seafood, select products certified as sustainable.
By taking part, you’ll be joining a global movement: the Not On Our Watch (#NOOW) campaign.
