Schedule a Field Trip Visit with an Education Program presented by the Zoo’s Education Department

Experience a world of possibilities when you bring your students to the Louisville Zoo! With new engaging classes, amazing up-close animal encounters, and guided walking tours of our award-winning exhibits, we invite you to join us for the unique experiences that will make your Zoo visit unforgettable.

Programs are taught by Zoo educators and docents (trained volunteers) and typically last 60 minutes, depending on the age of the group.

Classes

Available Mon., Wed. & Fri @ 10:45 a.m., 11:45 a.m. & 12:45 p.m.
These student-centered, one-hour programs are designed to introduce your students to problem-based learning. We encourage them to compare, investigate and make predictions through the use of hands-on activities, live animal encounters, and up-close experiences with our biological artifacts.

Group Tours

Available Tue. & Thu @ 10 & 11 a.m.
Explore the Zoo in a whole new way with guided interpretive tours of our award-winning exhibits. These 60-minute walking tours will introduce your students to the natural history and biology of the amazing animals at the Zoo.

Rides and Attractions

Discover all the fun activities to do inside the Zoo from carousel rides to train rides and lorikeet feedings.

Lunch Reservation

The Zoo’s in-house caterer offers a variety of convenient and inexpensive lunch options for your school group.

The Louisville Zoo programs and materials are based on the following publications. The Louisville Zoo Education Department develops and provides education that is engaging while being scientifically accurate and formally based on:

  • Project 2061’s Benchmark for Science Literacy (American Association for the Advancement of Science)
  • Next Generation Science Standards
  • Kentucky Common Core Standards
  • Excellence in Environmental Education: Guidelines for Learning (North American Association for Environmental Education)
