Haven’t been getting enough of your Louisville Zoo lately?
Welcome to Zoo Live: a week of unique digital contact starring our education staff, zoo animal ambassadors, along with some simple science and art-at-home activities targeted for children 6 to 8 years old. Each day of this weeklong program will feature two opportunities for you to video conference with Zoo educators and have a virtual encounter with a surprise animal ambassadors. There will be plenty of time to ask any questions you might have about our animals and your at-home activities. Each of the five sessions will be repeated so you will have two chances to see each animal. (Note, this is a weeklong program with multiple weeks available to choose from. Each week features the same schedule of sessions and animals.)

Animal encounters will include a combination of pre-recorded video as well as a LIVE meet and greet with a keeper/educator and a surprise Zoo animal.
All participants will receive an an activity booklet that includes:
- Kid-friendly activities
- Observation journal template
- Instructions for additional crafts and games children can do at home with every day materials.

How long will it last?
Each day there will be two virtual encounters at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. that will last approximately 30 minutes each. To provide your child with multiple opportunities to join us, we are providing two chances per week to see each of the five sessions. (See chart above)
What time will the encounters be broadcast?
The animal encounters are a part of the twice daily 30-minute video conferences at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
What animals will be featured?
The animals for each session will be a surprise, but one will feature a sloth.
How does Zoo Live work?
The program sessions will run one week (Monday – Friday) with each day offering two opportunities to participate in a video conference through WebEx. During these 30-minute video conferences, participants will be introduced to different animal ambassadors and Zoo staff through live and prerecorded video footage and given the chance to ask staff questions. The program also includes a downloadable booklet of activities, crafts, and games participants can do on their own with materials commonly found in households.
What age is Zoo Live best for?
The program is designed for children ages 6 to 8 to participate with little to no adult assistance. Younger or older children are welcome to take part, but younger children will need more help completing the activity booklet.
Can all the children in my household participate?
Yes, any member of your household (child or adult) is welcome to participate. There is no limit to the number of children that can participate.
What time are the online chats?
There will be a morning and afternoon session each day and a specific video conference schedule will be provided after registration.
What equipment or materials do I need to participate in Zoo Live?
A phone, tablet, laptop, or desktop computer with internet access as well as a camera and microphone capable of making a video call is needed for the virtual sessions. Any materials needed for the crafts, games, and activities are listed in the packet. How will I receive the program materials?
There are no special materials required to participate in this program! The activity booklet will be emailed out along with a program schedule and all crafts, activities, and games which are designed to use only materials already on hand at home.
What will my child experience during Zoo Live?
Each virtual session will be a 30-minute video conference during which your child will be introduced to one or more of our Zoo’s animal ambassadors and given the opportunity to interact with Zoo Staff.
How many animals will my child see during Zoo Live?
Your child will see at least one animal per virtual session.
Do I have to participate with my child during their online sessions?
Parents may be needed to help their children login to the virtual sessions each day but will not have to stay and participate in the session.
How will you keep my child safe during the online sessions?
Links to virtual sessions will be sent out to registered parents the week of the program and sessions are closed (only registered participants allowed). You can choose to log in to the virtual session with an avatar and no digital information will be shared between parents. No sessions will be recorded.
