Frequently Asked Questions

Do Louisville Zoo members get a discount?

Yes. You must login with your current membership card to receive the discount. Current members should automatically be offered the discount pricing.  Please see instructions on the NEW Webstore ticket purchasing pages. Bring your ticket to the Zoo for validation. If you forget your ticket, bring your receipt or confirmation number.

I didn’t get my member discount. What do I do?

You will need to contact the Zoo staff and discuss options. Generally we can work with you to cancel and reorder correct tickets to replace the incorrect tickets. Call 502-238-5337 (business office) or 502-459-2181 (general administration).

How many tickets can I buy using my membership?

You may purchase tickets for those covered under your membership.

Do I need to bring my membership card and photo ID even though I used my ID number to buy my ticket online?

Yes, we reserve the right to check member cards and photo ID at the gate.

I have a membership to a reciprocal Zoo, how will that work?

We do not accept reciprocal memberships for admission for after-hours events or for special ticketed events like Santa's Safari.

Is the Winter Dare to Care Admission Discount Applicable to Santa's Safari?

The Dare to Care Wild Winter Days presented by Kroger offers an Admission Discount (50% off adult & child general admission Nov. 1, 2014 - Feb. 28, 2015 with canned food item) and is only available on general admission tickets.  It does not apply to Santa's Safari or other special events. Of course, you are more the welcome to donate a canned food item and help the Zoo support the Dare to Care Food Bank this holiday season.

Can I cancel or exchange tickets if one or more in my group cannot attend?

This is a reservation-based event (like a concert) so there are no refunds or exchanges. We suggest you go ahead and offer your tickets to friends or family members to enjoy. If you have a true emergency and the event is sold out, contact staff and we’ll check waiting lists to see if your tickets can be resold for your time slot. 

Does my infant need a ticket?

Space is very limited so we do require that all attending have a ticket. We recommend that for your enjoyment and that of other guests, that young infants stay at home for this activity.

Are highchairs and booster seats available?

Booster seats with trays are available on a first come, first served basis and cannot be reserved. So plan to arrive early.

Where do I go when I get to the Zoo?

Go to the Zoo's cashier windows to check in with your tickets (or purchase additional tickets based on availability). Then proceed to the Gheens Room in the Islands Pavilion. Please try to check in at least 15 minutes before your session begins so we can be sure to get you seated in time. The Islands Pavilion is located to the right side of the Zoo. Proceed to the holiday props next to the yellow Islands banner and wind your way down the hill. Enter the Pavilion straight ahead and stay right following signs down the hall; proceed through the first set of glass doors at the end of the hall past the bats; go through the small room and upstairs to the 2nd floor via the elevator or stairs.

What if my child has peanut allergies?

This event is not a peanut-free event as we cannot guarantee that cookies are not prepared in an environment where peanuts are present. Some guest have prepared and brought their own cookies or treats for their children with special food requirements.

What are you serving?

Cookies, milk and hot chocolate (or coffee) as well as bottled water are served. Because we do not have a stocked restaurant kitchen, we cannot provide substitutions (such as special milks or juices).

What else do we receive? How long is the session?

Each guest receives a cookie and beverages. Each child receives a holiday craft. Each family receives one complimentary photo with Santa. With sing-alongs, Santa visits, visits with costume characters, crafts, and encounters with education animals and docents, it generally takes guests about an hour and a half. You are free to take your time at animal exhibits too as the Zoo is open.

Do you cancel or reschedule the event if weather is very bad?

The Zoo only closes under very serious weather conditions. If local weather causes the Zoo to close, we will provide refunds if guests cannot be rebooked to a future day. Please visit our website at louisvillezoo.org for any special announcements or notifications.

Do you have strollers or wheelchairs?

Yes. These are available for rent on a first come, first served basis through the Zoo cashier when you enter. Single stroller - $8; Double stroller - $10; Red Wagon - $10. Wheelchair (non-motorized) - $8; (We have a limited number of wheelchairs that are available on a first come - first served basis.) Wheelchair (motorized) - $28. What should we wear?

There is no dress code. Guests often come in holiday clothes for their photo with Santa. You do have to walk to the Islands Pavilion, so we suggest warm clothes and comfortable shoes.

What are the Zoo hours and what is open?

The Zoo is open daily 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. (stay until 5 p.m.). Animal exhibits are generally open unless weather conditions or other issues require exhibits to be closed. Rides and attractions are typically not open as they are weather dependent.

Are gift shops open?

The main gift shop is open daily 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. (regular Zoo hours) and will sell a variety of fun holiday items including ornaments, apparel, educational toys, authentic Fair Trade items, books, jewelry and assorted plush. 
- All shoppers receive 10% off regularly priced Polar items (excluding plush) Dec. 1-24.
- Zoo Members get 10% off regularly priced items - with an additional 10% off regularly priced Polar items (excluding plush) Dec. 1-24.
- Members also receive 20% off regularly priced items Fri. Nov 28- Sun. Nov 30!

Is smoking permitted?

Smoking is prohibited on Zoo grounds except in specially marked areas. Smoking is not permitted in indoor facilities.

Is there a Parking Fee?

Parking during regular hours is free for Louisville Zoo members! This includes Santa's Safari. Non-member parking is $5 per car. For convenience, please add a $5 parking pass during your Santa's Safari purchase online. Otherwise you will need to purchase a parking pass at the cashier windows when you arrive.

What are the directions to the Zoo?

The Louisville Zoo is easy to find and just 15 minutes from downtown Louisville, KY, easily accessible from I-64 and I-65. Take I-264 (Watterson Expressway) to Poplar Level Road exit #14 and travel north. Follow the black and white zoo signs to 1100 Trevilian Way. Yahoo! Maps. Bus service via TARC.
