Zoo Announces First Save Our Species Pledge Walk (S.O.S)

Presented by McDonald’s Restaurants of Kentuckiana

The Louisville Zoo and Friends of the Zoo announce their collaboration on a new pledge walk to support endangered species Saturday, September 22 at 6 p.m. This after-hours adventure will take participants on an untimed walk through the Zoo’s lush pathways and include special up-close encounters with the Zoo’s animal ambassadors, animal demonstrations, keeper interactions, free carousel rides, post-walk fun including music by WAMZ, door prizes, special treats and a hit movie at sundown. The event is presented by McDonald’s Restaurants of Kentuckiana as part of the Zoo’s Zootember line-up of events with additional support from Sam’s Club and WAMZ radio.

The S.O.S. Pledge Walk will help us save species one step at a time. Each dollar raised will go directly towards the care, food and enrichment for the animals at the Zoo. The annual food budget alone for the animals is over $400,000.

Participants can register online at louisvillezoo.org. Options to become an individual participant, a family team or a donor are available. Family teams consist of up to four members all working together towards one fundraising goal.

To attend the S.OS. Pledge Walk participants must raise a minimum of $50 (ages 2 and under are free). Accumulation of prize items increase from that level to include items from lower levels as the collected pledges increase:

The Top Individual fundraiser will receive the unique opportunity to attend a health procedure at the Zoo’s Animal Care Center with the Zoo’s veterinarian.

The Top Family fundraising team will get a behind-the-scenes tour and lunch with a zoo keeper.

Participants will receive a personalized fundraising web page to use for sending out invitations, asking for pledges and tracking their progress.
